Hamster cage questions?
I disagree with the plastic cages(been there done that,not a pretty sight to clean).My hamster is a teddy bear Syrian hamster and i think wire cages are most suitable for his kind.I really don't know another kind of cage other than plastic and wire.

Im going to replace the wheel and waterbottle.
Is this suitable for a Syrian hamster,if not tell me about another reputable cage.
And at the link listed it costs $50.99, at my local petsmart it cost $33.00 (in US dollars).
idk It seems durable but a bit to small. Sadly the big cages in our area that have metal bars are for guinea pigs and such. The bars are to wide and the hamster can usually escape. I heard good things about Martin's cages. (just make sure you put something on the ramp so they don't hurt their feet).
I agree which you! The plastic Crittertrail cages made in the USA are horrible. Sure they have tubes but they are cheap, expensive and hard to clean! I researched that the most important thing in a cage is room. Floor space. Even is you have 3 levels with 1x1 foot each, it is better you have a 3x3 cage! Hamsters aren't usually fond of ramps anyway. It's always important to have a wheel but why buy a critter trail 3 for $80 when half the cage is pure air! ( the tubes lead up to levels and then there is 2 feet of pure nothing! These cages should be banned! Hamsters constantly fall and hurt themselves!
I personally am getting my first hamster in a week or 2. It is a Syrian. Most likely i am getting the Mama of a certain litter. (she is only 2 months older!) SHe is sweet and adorable!. I am adopting her from my local rescue. I just got most of my supplies today. The only thing im missing is my cage and wheel.
The cage i am getting comes from Europe. It is called a Zoozone. It is a large Plastic cage with a metal door on the top. It's actually made for Guinea pigs but you can keep hamster in it if you mesh the top using zipties (very easy). I know you said you don't want plastic cages, but this is very durable plastic. I highly suggest this one. My only "concern" was that you couldn't see the hamster sue to the deep base but i rather have a safe, happy hamster then a unhappy hamster kept in one of those death trap, on display for the world to see!
The Zoo zone is big and i'm getting mine online on ebay. (type in Zoo zone - not Zoozone)

EDIT: I disagree with Darren. Though Tubes seem nice and simulate the "digging" hamsters love, Its better to have an open are to run instead of 7 tubes clicked together! Its like you living on a small island with only a U shaped tunnel for exercise!
