How do we decide which child gets his own room out of three boys?
For parents with children of the same sex and not enough rooms to have their own...
We have three boys, turning 8 and 6 and a 5 month old baby boy. We are wanting to move to a place with three bedrooms but it is hard to decide who gets their own room. I wanted to know from other parents who had this issue how they decided and who got their own room.
I haven't had that situation, but I would put the two older children together because the 5 month old has much different needs than your older children. Maybe when baby is older (out of a crib and old enough not to choke on the older kids' toys) if your oldest boy really wants his own room, let him have his own space. When the oldest goes to college or moves out the middle child can have his own room. But the older boys will always be more alike in interest, toys, etc than the younger child because of the big age gap. Personally, if it were me, I would do everything I could to allow my kids to have their own space because I feel like its very important, not to mention having privacy during the awkward transition in the puberty years. I know its awful to think about but boys will have wet dreams that they need to deal with, they'll come home with things they want to hide from you and their siblings, they'll probably go through periods where they just need to be alone and deal with hormonal changes... its just an awkward time to share with a younger (or older) brother.
But then again I don't think anyone ever came out scarred from sharing a room.
