Hiking/camping: Is 5 lbs too heavy for a backpacking pack?
I purchased the Kelty Coyote 4500 really cheap ($84) and am starting to have buyer's remorse because it weighs 5 lbs. I don't plan on packing it full for most weekend trips, but having the potential for a larger load capacity makes me think this will make for a versatile pack. What do yall think? Thanks!

if it's just weekend trips then you'll be just fine with however heavy your pack weighs--a heavy pack over that short a period of time isn't that big of a deal. for simple overnight trips i'll take my bigger/heavier pack, too, because i'll have a lot more comfort items with me that i wouldn't take on a long-distance trip.
if you decide to start doing long-distance hiking then a 5-lb pack is too heavy, but having two packs isn't a bad thing. and yes, you can get lighter packs that aren't terribly expensive. it's not super-light, but my 2 lb. Osprey was $75.
Thanks for visiting!
