Can you recommend (good or bad) on any of these hiking boots or suggest a better pair?
I have been looking to buy a new pair of hiking boots for around £100. I would like boots that are waterproof and are good at keeping my feet dry (as they tend to sweat allot), a steel (or composite) toe or reinforced heels would be an advantage but not not necessary. They also need to fit rather large and wide feet (somewhere between 9-11) I have been looking at the following boots Rocky Men's AlphaForce Composite Toe Duty Boot, Wellco X Force Zip, Lowa Mountain GTX, Magnum Stealth Force 8 Inch, BlackHawk Warrior Wear Light Assault Boot, Bates Falcon Enforcer, HI-TEC ALTIMA 200, Hi-Tec Cascadia Xcm Event WPi, Oakley Tactical Six and Oakley All Mountain. I was also wondering if you can buy separate steel to caps to attach into these boots?
I've got a pair of Asolo (Italian made) Gore-Tex boots that I've had since I was about 15, and still wear to this day (8 years later), and they're in just as good condition, even after hiking several hundred miles in them. They're up there in price (200 USD for some of the top sets), but some of the others can be had for right in your price range of £100, like here: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/Product.aspx?baseno=65843&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=PaidShopping&utm_term=Asolo_Echo_Hiking_Boots_-_For_Men&utm_campaign=PCGOOGLEBASE2KX&codesProcessed=true
The pair I have is definitely comfortable, give great ankle support, and I wear a size 13 mens (US size) wide and they fit comfortably. I wear them sometimes just out and about because they're so comfortable. They'll keep your feet dry and are great for backpacking, hiking, even light climbing. I remember going to the store to buy them, asking them what their "best boots" were (I was preparing for a 110+ mile hike), and having them recommend these. These will last you a lifetime.
