ever heard of CHINOOKS?
my mom sent me a copy of Northern New England Journey and there's a fascinating article about this rare breed. only 600 and recognized by the American Rare Breed Assoc. and the United Kennel Club.

Any breed can be overbred, especially when it comes from a relatively small gene pool. Chinooks can be prone to hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and eye problems.
They are an interesting breed and are reportedly a good family dog, especially for those families interested in sledding sports.
